Concept
The goal was to create a calm, minimal space by experimenting with material combinations and spatial flow. Together with the lead architect, we explored different design directions through iterative 3D visualizations.
Materials & Synthesis
The renovation blends natural and tactile finishes for a warm, grounded atmosphere. The backsplash and countertop are clad in travertino porcelain, offering a refined stone look with the easy care of porcelain. This same surface elegantly wraps the fireplace surround, tying the kitchen and living areas together with continuity and warmth.
The kitchen cupboards feature a soft matte beige finish that complements the porcelain’s veining, while oak-toned wood flooring adds natural texture and balances the cooler stone surfaces. Upholstery and curtain fabrics in soft, neutral hues complete the palette, enhancing the cozy, contemporary feel.
Each material was evaluated through 3D visualizations to ensure balance, softness, and a modern, understated atmosphere.
Design Exploration
Throughout the process, we explored various fireplace and kitchen hood design options using iterative 3D studies. The fireplace underwent several tests in form and finish until we selected a low, horizontal structure clad in La Marca Travertino porcelain, creating cohesion with the kitchen materials.
For the kitchen hood, we examined both bold and integrated styles. The final solution took the form of a simple, wall-like extrusion, painted to match the surrounding wall and crowned with a thin porcelain shelf—using the same material as the backsplash and countertop. This composition added quiet character and display potential while maintaining a clean, architectural presence.
Design & Composition
The space flows naturally from kitchen to dining. A round table with soft, sculptural legs anchors the seating area, while the built-in bench enhances comfort. Lighting and furniture were chosen to highlight form and material simplicity.
